The first book full length book I wrote "Welcome to the real World, Comrade!" was originally written for print publication thus the main character was a KGB Agent in Australia. The reasons behind that, instead of having a more popular character from the West, was simply the Publisher's whims. At that time Publishers told people what they would read. If you wanted to get published then you had to have a manuscript that was totally new in concept or running parallel to the best sellers of the day. Then ebooks and ibooks came into being and the Publishers and their whims were no longer important. The book had been written so too late to change characters or storyline and the book was published as an ebook and ibook.

I have been asked at times by people interested in becoming an author just what is the easiest way to go about it, or more plainly 'how'?
The only brief advice I can give them is to follow the general methods. They are; make a 'Story Board' and a 'Profile List' of the characters you want or need in the story. The Story Board is where you put your outline of the story from the beginning, the main body and finally the conclusion. All this can be done as notes for you to follow. Plots and intended outcomes go on your story board. Also a good place for those sudden ideas that pop into the mind often when away from your computer. The Profile List of characters you wish to use is very handy in ensuring that characters keep to their profiles throughout the story. One situation you do not want is a character contradicting themselves by a sudden change in psyche in the story unless the situation is intended. Short story writing is a great help as well in finally progressing to full length books. What to write? Always write about what you know well regardless of the genre unless of course writing general fiction. |
